I first visited Brent in February 2007 because I was walking like an elderly person and was experiencing so much pain that I could no longer play tennis. I am highly impressed with Brent’s diagnostic ability. Each visit with Brent revealed new ways for me to approach my body dynamics and posture. I can hardly believe that I could learn new ways to hold and move my body so quickly. By April I was walking long distances, by August I was back to tennis, and in September I hiked the west coast trail. Yesterday, (February 2008) I just touched my toes. This may sound trivial, but it is not. I’ve never been able to touch my toes! I’m talking calmly reaching down and easily touching the floor. Even with knees perfectly straight. I can’t believe it!! Brent has given me 11 sessions, and I practice the exercises he has shown me.

My first treatment from Brent was like a miracle. While the other physiotherapists I had been seeing for the past few years had been treating my upper back, neck shoulder symptoms through massage, heat/ice packs and ultrasound of those areas, Brent diagnosed that the problem was in fact coming from my mid back. He basically did a few very mild feeling manipulations on my spine (which at the time I hardly noticed and was a bit skeptical!) and by the next day I was feeling better than I had for years. With follow up exercises involving posture correction I have remained free of the tightness and soreness that had been compromising my lifestyle. I cannot thank Brent enough for looking beyond the symptoms for the underlying cause. I dedicate my next swim race to you Brent!

I am a 64 year old ardent golfer.I came to see Brent due to pain and a lack of mobility in my upper and lower back and hips. With the help of Brent’s treatments and exercises I have significantly improved mobility in both areas and am playing virtually pain free for the first time in many years.I would strongly recommend Brent to any golfer looking to increase strength and mobility and to prevent the aches and pains most of us senior golfers have come to accept. Thanks to Brent I look forward to many more years of my favourite sport !

M, Nelson, 67 :
“After over a decade of working with physios, kinesiologists, personal trainers, and rehab doctors, I had concluded that there was not much to be done for chronic and limiting back problems. To make matters worse, headaches and other areas of pain were decreasing my quality of life. Consulting my family doctor again, she referred me to Brent Stevenson. Five months later, with nothing but carefully structured and monitored exercises for posture, strength and balance, the pain and related problems are remarkably improved. I feel like I have regained an important part of my life.”

D, Safnuk, 53:
“I have been an active athlete my whole life and have dealt with low back and SI joint problems for 20 years. I had tried numerous physios, chiros and massage therapists but still found my pain and stiffness were affecting my day to day life. I was referred to Brent because of his knowledge of golf and his connection with Diane Lee. He helped me better understand the nature of my pain and stiffness and taught me to decompress my body by means of movement and awareness. My mobility and pain the morning after a squash game are significantly better now thanks to the combined efforts of Brent and my personal trainer.”

Staying healthy and physically fit are very important to my general state of well-being. When I was referred to Brent for a physio assessment, I was recovering from having had 2 major surgeries within the past year. I was falling frequently and therefore unable to stay active enough to maintain cardiac fitness - this was affecting my mental health and I was feeling older than my years and not very hopeful about my future. I wanted to be able to continue taking active holidays with my friends as well as the daily physical activity which keeps me physically and mentally strong. I seemed to have lost my zest for life and in desperation joined a gym, thinking that I just needed to be more active to get strong. Luckily the gym owner insisted that I have a physiotherapy assessment before activating the gym membership - which is how I met Brent.
Brent provided me with a thorough assessment and provided me with some simple exercises, and he also gave me some hope that with hard work, I’d be able to become stronger and more active again. For the first time in working with a physiotherapist, I felt that he really heard what my concerns were and listened to what my goals were - he then devised a personal program which allowed me to work at my own pace to regain my muscle strength. He seems to have a strong ability to observe the body in motion and know where the problem lies, and impart that knowledge to his client - I am able to control muscles I wasn’t previously aware that I even had. I feel that I am aware of my body more and able to work with it instead of against it. Brent is patient, persistent and calm in his work - he’s also professional in his ability to stay on schedule with his appointments.
Thanks to working with Brent for the better part of a year, I was able to regain my coordination, strength, and zest for life and staying healthy and active. I was able to go on my holiday this year for 3 weeks and go on 4-5 hour hikes. I am now planning to go on a more strenuous trek in northern India - a year ago I thought that I should trade in my hiking poles for a walker. I cannot say enough about how grateful I am to Brent for his ability to provide me with the tools to take back the responsibility for staying fit, and in so doing, helped me regain my sense of well-being and optimism for my future health.
Thank you, Brent!
