Welcome to Health & Posture, an online resource for people interested in learning how to use their bodies efficiently to eliminate pain, avoid injury and improve their sport performance. My name is Brent Stevenson. I am a physical therapist (aka physiotherapist) in Vancouver, British Columbia and the owner of Envision Physiotherapy. The purpose of this website is to challenge people’s perspective on how they use their bodies in day to day life and to illustrate how it’s all the little things that we take for granted that make the most difference in regards to our health, posture, flexibility and movement.

On this site, you will find written and video based explanations for common ailments such as low back pain, balance problems, hip replacements, as well as detailed do’s and don’ts for specific sports. The goal is to change your perception that everything that feels tight needs to be stretched and that strengthening exercises are the answer for all apparent weaknesses. Most of us don’t have time to get to the gym 3-4x/week, but would still like to stay healthy, flexible and pain-free. This should should give you ways to do that. Please read through the various pages and categories to find some answers that are specific to you.

1. Who runs this site?

My name is Brent Stevenson and I am a Physical Therapist in Vancouver BC.

2. Who pays for the site?

3. What is the purpose of this site?

The purpose of this site is to educate people about their bodies and encourage them to take control of their own health. I will try to write it at a level that is understandable to the general population and I hope it helps new graduating physiotherapists to put everything they have learned into perspective in order to help them diagnose and treat their clients.

4. Where does the information come from?

The information comes from what i have learned through school, post-grad courses and most of all experience. I will try to write everything as practical and as useful as possible.

5. What is the basis of the information?

I went to a school that preached “Evidence-Based-Practice” and I fully support the idea of research, but unfortunately fixing people’s complex pain problems is…well complex. It is as much an art as it is a science, which makes it very difficult to perform randomized controlled trials that truely represent just how effective some treatments can be. Currently, if I as a physiotherapist only used treatments that had strong supporting evidence, I would be doing my clients an injustice. The basis of this information is sound physiotherapy principle combined with practical logic and experience.

6. How is the information selected?

I will select the information I feel is necessary for people to grasp an adequate understanding of how their body works. Where possible I will try to include links and references, but I am doing this as a hobby and am currently working full time so they may get added in at a later date.

7. How current is the information?

I am continually taking new courses and learning new information. As such, I will try to remain as up to date as possible.

8. How does the site choose links to other sites?

I will try my best to provide approprite, quality links to other sites.

9. What information does the site collect about you and why?

I don’t collect any information about you…I don’t have the time or desire.

10. How does the site manage interaction with visitors?
